If you’ve been following me for a while now you’ll know that my 9-5 involves producing digital content about skincare, and any ‘home-time’ in between is spent searching for the best makeup and skincare products on the market, so it goes without saying that I am a huge advocate of double-cleansing.
If you haven’t heard of double-cleansing, it’s a technique which involves initially using an oil or balm based cleanser to remove surface dirt and makeup, then following up with a more traditional cleanser to completely clean the skin and prep it for the day or night. I believe the method has French origins, but don’t quote me on it!
Anyway, until roughly six months ago I’d only used oil based first-cleansers, but then I heard one of my favourite YouTubers (Belle Jordan) talking about how much she loved the Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter… so obviously, in true fan girl fashion, I bulk bought four tins!
My long-term opinion…
The positive reviews on the product page speak for themselves, but I have to say this is the best cleansing balm/butter I have ever tried.
It’s gentle enough for the entire face, including the eye region, as it includes calming ingredients like camomile (making it an ideal choice for sensitive skin) and the balmy consistency not only leaves the skin feeling hydrated, but also removes every bit of makeup from the face including long-lasting mascara.
How to apply it…
There are two simple steps involved in using this product. First, massage a dollop of the butter onto a dry face (paying particular attention to the eye region) and second, remove residue and dirt with wet hands or a wet flannel.
My only dislike is that the tin style involves you having to dip your finger into the product to grab some butter which could cause contamination, but as long as your hands are clean first, this shouldn’t be too much of an issue!
Would I repurchase?
In hindsight, four tins may have been a little excessive… after all, I still haven’t finished the first one within a few months! Having said that, once I’m through with all of my existing product, I’ll definitely have to repurchase.
Available for just £10, and sometimes less due to the sales The Body Shop often host, it’s safe to say that this is an incredible investment for such a prestigious and loved product. If you’re anything like me, you’ll stock up for a year in fear of this best-seller disappearing!
