Clinique Pop Matte Lip Colour + Primer Review

Clinique Pop Matte Lip Colour + Primer

If you’ve been following me for a while now, you’ll know that I’m a matte liquid lipstick girl through-and-through… the thought of using a traditional bullet lipstick over a liquid formulation a few months ago would have curled my toes, but today I have some good news to share.

There IS a great traditional matte lipstick on the market and it’s not going to COMPLETELY break the bank… it’ll just set you back £17.

I am, of course, talking about the Clinique Pop Matte Lip Colour + Primer – an extremely hydrating, long-lasting and impactful lip product which I’ve fallen head over heels in love with. The only downside is that Clinique aren’t on-board the cruelty-free bus just yet as they retail in China…hopefully this will be changing very soon!

Ruby Pop

Clinique Pop Matte Lip Colour + Primer 3 I cannot COUNT the amount of times I have opted for this gorgeous and vibrant (but classic) matte red lipstick over the past few months; it has fast become my signature lip (you know I love a good wing and red lip combo).

The formulation literally lasts for HOURS, which really surprised me, and the only shifting which really takes place is in the centre of the lips (as you would expect from a product of this nature).

The added bonus is that this multi-tasking lip treat also primes the lips, which explains why they feel so hydrated after a day-long application, unlike other drying matte lip products. This, along with the comfortable and extremely lightweight wearability, have swayed the decision of having this lipstick on-hand (somewhere within the depths of my messy handbag) at all times.

Beach Pop

IClinique Pop Matte Lip Colour + Primer 3 have to admit, I’m not so obsessed with ‘Beach Pop’ – a purple-brown tone nude.

The formulation is exactly the same (it looks a little less matte in this photo, but it’s just the lighting), but the colour itself was a little underwhelming.

From the outside (yes, lets take a moment to appreciate how luxurious the matte packaging is), this looked like it would have more of a purple pigment to it, but instead I would say it’s more on the brown-side – which is going to look gorgeous on darker skin tones, but isn’t a go-to colour for my translucent complexion.

Final thoughts?

I rarely say that you NEED something in your makeup bag, but if you’re a matte lipstick lover whose looking to branch away from the liquid lipstick comfort blanket, I really recommend that you purchase Ruby Pop – it’s a keeper!
